1. Surveys on Observation and Meteorological Instruments

JMA and WMO conduct surveys and publish WMO IOM (Instrument and Observing Method) Reports to support sustainable improvement of quality management for National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) in Regional Association II (Asia). Focus is placed on surface, climate and upper-air observation and the availability of accurate data.

Report (WMO website).

WMO (2015): Survey on Meteorological Instruments, Calibration and Training - Regional Association II (Asia)
Report (WMO website).

These surveys were conducted by JMA and WMO under the RA II WIGOS Project to Enhance the Availability and Quality Management Support for NMHSs in Surface, Climate and Upper-air Observations as approved at the 15th session of Regional Association II (Asia) in Doha, Qatar, in December 2012.

2. Interlaboratory Comparison

Interlaboratory Comparison (ILC) is a highly effective tool in determining technical competence and measurement quality. The Terms of Reference of RICs also state that RICs must participate in or organize ILC. An ILC among six laboratories including RIC Tsukuba in Regional Association II, V, and VI was successfully conducted in 2018 and 2019.

Report (WMO website).
